In a major infrastructure upgrade, state authorities have decided to construct a rooftop helipad on the three-storey parking lot near Kainchi Dham in Nainital. Initially planned as a ₹29 crore project, the revised detailed project report (DPR) has increased the cost to ₹40 crore after incorporating structural changes for the helipad. The parking facility, originally designed to accommodate 436 vehicles, was approved months ago to manage the heavy influx of devotees at the ashram. However, with limited land availability, officials opted for a rooftop helipad to enhance connectivity. The project has now received in-principle approval from the tourism department.

S.S. Samant, Joint Director of the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board, stated, “The Public Works Department (PWD) has been tasked with modifying the DPR to accommodate the helipad.” Additionally, the plan includes widening the bridge leading to Kainchi Dham and broadening approach roads for smoother access.

Kainchi Dham is a revered pilgrimage site that draws thousands of devotees seeking spiritual solace. Founded by Neem Karoli Baba, the ashram is known for its peaceful ambiance and deep-rooted spiritual significance. Every year, pilgrims from across India and beyond visit to experience its divine energy and seek blessings.
