Long before it was called Kumaon, this land of oak, deodar and snow peaks was known as Manaskhand, a region revered in the old Puranic texts as a home of gods and sages. Today it still holds one of the densest concentrations of living pilgrimage sites in the Himalayas: the ashram where Neem Karoli Baba is remembered by devotees from around the world, the ancient stone temples of Jageshwar among the deodars, the limestone cave of Patal Bhuvaneshwar, the Katyuri-era temples of Baijnath, and the Shakti seat of Purnagiri high above the Sharda river. Our 11 Days Kumaon Tour PackageSpiritual links all of them in one unhurried circuit, from Kathgodam to Kathgodam, with a private AC cab, comfortable stays, daily breakfast and dinner, and darshan assistance at each stop. You bring the faith. We handle the road.
About Kumaon - Manaskhand, the land of sages
Kumaon is the eastern half of Uttarakhand, a region of oak and deodar forest, terraced hills and a long front row of Himalayan peaks. In the old Puranic tradition it is called Manaskhand, a sacred geography of sages, hermitages and temples. Pilgrims come here for different reasons: the Shiva temples of Jageshwar, Baijnath and Bageshwar; the Shakti shrines of Naina Devi, Haat Kalika and Purnagiri; the ashrams of Kainchi, Dol and Mayawati; and caves such as Patal Bhuvaneshwar and Dunagiri that are bound up with centuries of local legend. Unlike the crowded Char Dham route, much of this circuit is quiet, rural and slow, which is exactly why many devotees prefer it.
