The Khaliya Top trek spans approximately 6 km one way from the Balati Bend trailhead (2,400m) to the alpine ridge (3,500m). It is classified as an easy-to-moderate mountain trail with gradual ascents winding through oak and rhododendron woodlands. Active beginners, first-time Himalayan trekkers, and families with children above 8 years can comfortably complete the trek at a relaxed, guided pace.
Snowfall usually arrives on Khaliya Top by late December and blankets the upper meadows through January, February, and early March. During peak winter, Khaliya Top transforms into a snow wonderland ideal for snow trekking and photography. In November and late March, skies remain crisp and clear with 360-degree, unobstructed panoramic views of the Panchachuli snow peaks.
Winter temperatures in Munsiyari range between -2°C and 12°C, and night temperatures at Khaliya Base Camp drop below freezing (-5°C). We recommend a 3-layer system: thermal innerwear, a warm fleece or woolen sweater, and a windproof/waterproof down jacket. Essential gear includes sturdy trekking shoes with deep lug grip, woolen socks, insulated gloves, a woolen cap/beanie, and UV sunglasses.
For Delhi departures, batches depart every Friday night between 9:30 PM and 10:30 PM from Akshardham Metro Station and Kashmere Gate ISBT, returning Tuesday late night. For Ex Haldwani batches, pickups take place at Kathgodam Railway Station or Haldwani by Friday evening, returning Tuesday afternoon.
In Almora (1 night) and Munsiyari (2 nights), you stay in premium, handpicked mountain hotels/resorts with attached western bathrooms, running hot water geysers, and clean bedding. At Khaliya Base Camp (1 night), you stay in dual-layer alpine tents equipped with insulated foam sleeping mats and sub-zero rated sleeping bags designed for high-altitude cold.
All daily breakfasts and dinners at hotels, along with freshly prepared hot lunches, dinners, and evening tea/snacks at Khaliya Base Camp, are 100% included. Food is hygienic, wholesome, and primarily North Indian and local Kumaoni vegetarian cuisine (dal, paneer/vegetable dishes, rice, rotis, and eggs on request). While SBI ATMs are available in Munsiyari town, we strongly recommend withdrawing sufficient cash in Kathgodam or Almora as mountain ATMs occasionally run dry.
No special permits or fitness certificates are required for Indian citizens visiting Munsiyari, Birthi Falls, or Khaliya Top. Forest entry fees and state border road permits are already included by Nagarjuna Travels. Foreign nationals must carry their original passport and valid Indian visa for hotel check-ins and administrative border area registers in Pithoragarh district.
