Tibet Travel Permit: 100% Handled By Us

Important Operational Rule: While visa-free entry allows you to enter mainland China without visiting a consulate, the Tibet Travel Permit (TTP) is a distinct security requirement for the Tibet Autonomous Region. Nagarjuna Travels processes all TAR permits, Alien permits, and Military clearances for every international pilgrim in our groups.
Holding a US, UK, Canadian, or Other Passport?

Pilgrims holding passports not listed above (including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and others) simply need to obtain a standard China Tourist Visa (L Visa) from their nearest Chinese Visa Application Center (VAC) or Consulate. Nagarjuna Travels provides the necessary official booking confirmation, itinerary, and hotel documentation to support your visa application. Once your visa is granted, we handle all Tibet permits seamlessly.

Essential Information for NRIs & International Travelers

Planning the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from abroad requires clear clarity on international passport validity, OCI/PIO card guidelines, Nepal transit visas, high-altitude travel insurance, and USD payment schedules. Below is an essential guide compiled by our international pilgrimage desk to ensure a seamless, well-prepared journey.

OCI/PIO Card Holders

OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) and PIO card holders can undertake the Kailash Yatra. However, visa and permit requirements are determined by your passport nationality, not your OCI/PIO status. Ensure your passport has 6+ months validity with at least 2 blank visa pages.

Passport Requirements

All travelers must have a valid passport with at least 6 months validity from the date of travel and a minimum of 2 blank visa pages. Passport copies are required for Tibet Travel Permit processing: submit them at least 45 days before departure.

Currency & Payments

All packages are priced in USD. Payments can be made via international wire transfer (SWIFT), or through prior arrangement with our team. We provide a detailed invoice and payment confirmation for your records. No hidden charges or last-minute surcharges.

Nepal Transit Visa

Most nationalities receive a Nepal visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. The fee is approximately $30 USD for 15 days or $50 USD for 30 days. Indian passport holders do not need a Nepal visa. Carry 2 passport-size photos for the visa counter.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering high-altitude trekking (up to 6,000m+), emergency medical evacuation by helicopter, trip cancellation, and baggage loss. International pilgrims should purchase insurance that is valid in Nepal, China, and Tibet.

Communication Support

Our team communicates via WhatsApp, email, and international calling. We provide pre-departure briefing documents, packing checklists, and fitness preparation guides well in advance. A 24/7 emergency contact number is provided for the entire duration of the yatra.

The Three Pillars of Kailash Mansarovar

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is anchored by three remarkable natural and spiritual wonders: the majestic unclimbed peak of Mount Kailash, the high-altitude freshwater of Lake Mansarovar, and the 52-kilometer Kailash Parikrama. Together, these elements create a transformative journey revered across world traditions.

Mount Kailash Peak at 6638 meters
Cosmic Axis 6,638m Peak

Mount Kailash

Rising dramatically to 6,638 meters above sea level in the Transhimalaya, Mount Kailash stands perpetually unclimbed as the spiritual center of the universe. Revered as the eternal abode of Lord Shiva in Hinduism, Mount Meru in Buddhism, and the seat of spiritual liberation in Jainism and Bon, its four distinct cardinal faces naturally align with the great rivers of Asia.

Mind of Brahma 4,590m Altitude

Lake Mansarovar

Situated at an elevation of 4,590 meters on the Tibetan Plateau, Lake Mansarovar is the highest body of freshwater in the world. Originating from the Sanskrit words 'Manas' (mind) and 'Sarovar' (lake), ancient Vedic texts state the lake was conceived in the mind of Lord Brahma before manifesting on Earth. Devout pilgrims perform holy dips and offer prayers along its pristine turquoise shoreline.

The Holy Kora

The 52-kilometer circumambulation around Mount Kailash is a profound three-day high-altitude trek testing physical endurance and spiritual devotion. Crossing the formidable Dolma La Pass at 5,630 meters elevation, pilgrims honor Yamasthali and behold the emerald waters of Gauri Kund. Completing this circumambulation is believed to cleanse sins of a lifetime.

Frequently Asked Questions for NRIs & Foreigners

Find answers to the most common questions NRIs and foreign nationals have about undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra: from visa requirements and Tibet permits to USD pricing, passport requirements, and altitude preparation.

Yes. NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) and foreign nationals from any country can undertake the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via the Nepal route. Nagarjuna Travels organizes the complete pilgrimage including Tibet Travel Permit processing, accommodation, meals, ground transport in Nepal and Tibet, oxygen support, Sherpa assistance, and medical escort. The China visa must be arranged by the traveler independently, although citizens of 54+ countries currently enjoy visa-free entry to China.

It depends on your nationality. Citizens of 54+ countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, UAE, and many European and Gulf nations, currently enjoy visa-free entry to mainland China under the Chinese government's expanded exemption policy. If your country is not on the visa-free list, you must obtain a China visa independently from the nearest Chinese Embassy or Consulate before the yatra. Regardless of visa status, a separate Tibet Travel Permit is mandatory for all foreign nationals, which Nagarjuna Travels handles on your behalf.

A Tibet Travel Permit (TTP) is a mandatory document issued by the Tibet Tourism Bureau, required for all foreign nationals to enter the Tibet Autonomous Region. Individual foreigners cannot apply directly; it must be arranged through a licensed travel agency. Nagarjuna Travels handles the complete Tibet Travel Permit application and processing for all pilgrims in our group, including the Alien Travel Permit (ATP) and Military Permit required for the restricted Kailash Mansarovar region. You simply need to provide your passport copy and photographs at least 45 days before departure.

Yes. OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) and PIO (Person of Indian Origin) card holders can undertake the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. However, for travel documentation purposes, you will be processed based on your passport nationality, not your OCI/PIO status. This means visa and permit requirements are determined by which country's passport you hold. If you hold an Indian passport, you follow the standard Indian pilgrim requirements. If you hold a foreign passport (US, UK, Australian, etc.), you follow the NRI/foreigner documentation process.

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2027 for NRIs and foreign nationals is priced at USD $2,750 per person for the 14-day Overland route and USD $3,550 per person for the 9-day Helicopter route. This includes Tibet Travel Permit, accommodation, meals, ground transport in Tibet and Nepal, oxygen support, Sherpa assistance, and medical escort. International flights to Kathmandu, China visa (if required), Nepal visa, travel insurance, and personal expenses are not included in the package price.

Foreign nationals need: (1) Valid passport with at least 6 months validity and 2 blank visa pages, (2) China visa if your country is not on the visa-free list, (3) Tibet Travel Permit: arranged by Nagarjuna Travels, (4) Nepal visa: available on arrival for most nationalities at Kathmandu airport ($30 to $50 USD), (5) 6 passport-size photographs (white background), (6) Medical fitness certificate from a registered physician, and (7) Comprehensive travel insurance covering high-altitude trekking and emergency evacuation.

Nagarjuna Travels takes altitude sickness (Acute Mountain Sickness) very seriously for all pilgrims. Our medical safety protocol includes: experienced Sherpas carrying portable oxygen cylinders, daily pulse-oximeter monitoring at every camp, scientifically designed acclimatization schedules with gradual altitude increments, emergency evacuation planning via helicopter if needed, and a dedicated medical escort throughout the journey. We strongly recommend that international pilgrims begin cardiovascular fitness training at least 2 months before departure, and consult their physician about preventive medication such as Acetazolamide (Diamox).

Nagarjuna Travels provides hot, freshly prepared pure vegetarian meals throughout the journey. Our own kitchen staff, including South Indian and North Indian cooks, travel with the group and prepare hygienic, nutritious meals at every stop. Breakfast typically includes parathas, toast, eggs, tea, and coffee; lunch and dinner feature rice, dal, sabzi, roti, and seasonal dishes. In Kathmandu, meals are served at the hotel restaurant. Special dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice.
