Premium Himalayan journeys with local expertise.
Just a short flight from India — 1.5 hours from Chennai, 3.5 hours from Mumbai, 4 hours from Delhi — lies an island that contains more UNESCO World Heritage Sites per square kilometre than almost any other destination on earth. Sri Lanka, the teardrop island at the southern tip of the Indian subcontinent, holds within it 2,500 years of Buddhist civilisation: ancient capitals whose ruins stretch across plains and forests, a rock fortress built by a king who chose a 200-metre vertical slab of granite as his palace, cave temples whose painted walls have not faded in fifteen centuries, and a sacred tooth relic that has defined Kandyan culture for over a millennium. Our Sri Lanka Cultural Tour Package (7 Days / 6 Nights) is a complete journey through the island's magnificent cultural triangle and colonial capital — from the coastal warmth of Negombo to the ancient pagodas of Anuradhapura, the medieval ruins of Polonnaruwa, the breathtaking Sigiriya Rock Fortress, the golden cave temple of Dambulla, the sacred city of Kandy, and finally the buzzing port capital of Colombo. Six nights. Seven unforgettable days. Five UNESCO World Heritage Sites. One island that will stay with you forever.
Kandy is the cultural capital of Sri Lanka — the last royal capital of the Kandyan kings (1469–1815 AD), the city that resisted Portuguese, Dutch, and British colonisation for longer than any other part of the island, and the guardian of Sri Lanka's most sacred relic. Set in a highland bowl surrounded by forested mountains and centred on the beautiful Kandy Lake (built by the last Kandyan king, Sri Vikrama Rajasinha, in 1807), Kandy is a city of extraordinary beauty and deep cultural pride. The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic — Sri Dalada Maligawa — is a complex of interlocking pavilions, moats, and chambers built over centuries beside the lake. The Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha is housed in a golden casket inside the inner shrine, shown to the public twice daily during the puja (worship) ceremony. The morning puja (6:30–8:00 AM) and the evening puja (6:30–8:00 PM) are both accompanied by the beating of traditional drums and the blowing of conch shells — a sonic and spiritual experience unlike anything else in Asia. In Kandyan tradition, the city's political legitimacy was historically tied to possession of the tooth relic — the king who held the tooth held the right to rule Sri Lanka. It has been guarded continuously since the 4th century AD. The Esala Perahera — the annual procession of the tooth relic through the Kandy streets — held in July/August, is one of the grandest religious festivals in Asia and one of the oldest in the world.
