Premium Himalayan journeys with local expertise.
Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand: After the annual monsoon suspension, the Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra is expected to resume after 17 September, subject to the final clearance from the district administration and road conditions. Every year, the yatra is temporarily halted during July and August as the Himalayan route passing through Dharchula, Gunji, and Jyolingkong becomes vulnerable to heavy rainfall, landslides, road washouts, and occasional cloudburst incidents. Recently, the Pithoragarh administration also suspended permits during the monsoon to prioritize pilgrim safety.
According to Nagarjuna Travels, the post-monsoon period has consistently proved to be the most suitable time for the pilgrimage. During the first two weeks of September, the region has witnessed recurring landslides and road restoration work over the past three years, making travel uncertain despite the gradual withdrawal of the monsoon. Once weather conditions stabilize and roads are declared safe, authorities generally resume the yatra from the second half of September, allowing pilgrims to travel with greater confidence.
The post-monsoon season also offers one of the most rewarding experiences for devotees. Crystal-clear Himalayan skies provide spectacular views of Adi Kailash, Om Parvat, Parvati Sarovar, and the surrounding snow-clad peaks. Cooler temperatures, improved visibility, and comparatively fewer visitors make September and October among the best months to undertake this sacred pilgrimage.
Nagarjuna Travels advises pilgrims to avoid planning their journey during peak monsoon and instead choose the post-monsoon departure dates. The company will begin operating its Adi Kailash Yatra batches immediately after the administration officially reopens the route and resumes the issuance of Inner Line Permits. Pilgrims are encouraged to complete their advance bookings so that permits, accommodation, and transport arrangements can be processed promptly once official approval is announced.
