The Chardham Yatra from Delhi is one of the most sacred pilgrimages in India, covering four holy shrines in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand — Yamunotri Temple, Gangotri Temple, Kedarnath Temple, and Badrinath Temple.
Starting from Delhi, this spiritual journey takes devotees through river valleys, Himalayan forests, snow-capped peaks, and ancient temples. Every year, lakhs of pilgrims begin their Chardham Yatra from Delhi seeking blessings, peace, and spiritual fulfillment.
The Uttarakhand Chardham includes four sacred shrines dedicated to different deities:
Yamunotri – Dedicated to Goddess Yamuna and the source of River Yamuna
Gangotri – Dedicated to Goddess Ganga and origin of River Ganga
Kedarnath – One of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva
Badrinath – Sacred temple of Lord Vishnu
The traditional sequence of the yatra is: Yamunotri → Gangotri → Kedarnath → Badrinath
This order is followed to maintain spiritual continuity and traditional significance.
The temples usually open in April/May (Akshaya Tritiya) and close around October/November (Diwali).
May – June: Pleasant weather and peak pilgrimage season
September – October: Clear skies and comparatively less crowd
July – August: Monsoon season (travel may be affected by landslides)
